Our Moderator, Ruling Elder Sue Skala

Susan Skala gave her life to Jesus at the age of seventeen. She had been raised an Episcopalian, but realized the full joy of God’s love through her fellow camp counselor’s witness.  Raised in Oakland, California, Ms. Skala has a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley and a Master of Science in Historic Preservation from Columbia University, New York.  Ms. Skala is married to the best husband in the world, Whitney, and has three super children; JR (29), Teresa (27), and Kirsten (26). Influenced by her grandfather, Ms. Skala became an architect to promote good design that changes people’s lives. In a culture where the arts are diminished by the lack of funds for public education and mediocre efforts are acceptable, Ms. Skala is passionate about increasing awareness that excellence need not cost more, nor be exclusive.  Susan K. Skala has owned and operated Skala Architecture A P.C. since 1987.  In addition to her professional duties, Ms. Skala has sat on a fund-raising board for the San Diego Crew Classic; Makua, an auxiliary fundraising group for Voices for Children; the Inner Circle of the San Diego Repertory Theater; and Mothers and Daughters Club Assisting Philanthropies. She currently is a member of the Charter Hill Society of UC, Berkeley and has been the chair of the Committee on Preparation for Ministry for the Presbytery of San Diego.  She is a member of the Point Loma Community Presbyterian Church.  She is looking forward to knowing more people in the Presbytery and be a loyal and enthusiastic Moderator.

Chair of the Executive Committee - Rev. Elizabeth Wilson Manahan

Rev. Elizabeth Wilson Manahan “Liz” has been serving at First Presbyterian Church of Oceanside since March 2008. In her tenure at Oceanside she has had a variety of responsibilities, but now oversees Mission and Spiritual Formation. She has a heart for discovering what people are passionate about and encouraging those gifts in them. She first felt called to be a pastor when she was a very young child; her parents tell her she was 8. Liz accepted that call while a freshman in college at Cal State Northridge. She graduated from Princeton in 2004 and served as Associate Pastor at Lenape Valley Presbyterian Church in New Britain, PA. Liz is married to George and they have one child, William. She enjoys running, the beach, hiking, going on weekly family adventures and relaxing with a good cup of tea and conversation. Her philosophy about ministry is to say, “yes” and see where the Holy Spirit is moving!
